High-quality wood products are an investment — and like any good investment, they deserve proper care. With a few simple measures, you can ensure that your Wood&Emotion wooden pieces will look beautiful not only today but also for many years to come. In this post, we share our best care tips with you.
Daily Care — Less Is More
For everyday cleaning, simply wipe wood products with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid excessive moisture — wood and standing water do not get along well. Always dry the wood immediately after cleaning. Abrasive cleaners or scouring pads are taboo — they can damage the surface.
Oiling — Nourishment for the Wood
Depending on usage, wood products should be oiled every 3 to 6 months. For this, use only natural wood oils such as linseed oil, tung oil, or specially developed wood care oils. Here's how:
- Clean the wood thoroughly and let it dry completely.
- Apply the oil thinly and evenly with a soft cloth in the direction of the grain.
- Let the oil soak in for 15–30 minutes.
- Wipe off excess oil and let the wood dry completely.
Oiling nourishes the wood, protects it from moisture, and enhances the natural grain.
Protection from Sun and Moisture
Direct sunlight can bleach and dry out wood. Therefore, do not permanently place wood products in direct sunlight. You should also protect wood from excessive moisture — whether from water splashes, high humidity, or outdoor use without appropriate treatment.
Repairing Scratches and Small Damages
Small scratches in wood are no cause for concern — they can often be easily repaired. Lightly sand the affected area with fine sandpaper (grit 220) in the direction of the grain, then re-oil. For deeper scratches, we recommend contacting us directly — we will be happy to advise you.
Storage and Transport
Store wood products in a dry, well-ventilated place. Avoid extreme temperature fluctuations, which can cause the wood to work. During transport, wood products should be well-padded to prevent scratches and impacts.
